Career History

Tom’s career has always involved technology teams that broke new ground and were the first to try things – from being involved in the team that built the first technology stack that automated the ASX trading floor in the 1980s to being the first CIO for Sydney’s first casino, Star Entertainment Group that established the technology strategy and executed upon it in a highly political environment.

From there, he moved into the telco sector, working in Australia and globally, before taking up the CIO/CTO role at global media company, NewsCorp. During his tenure, which stretched over a decade from 2004 – 2016, he supported the digital transformation of the business from print to multimedia. This was a career defining role for Tom, taking 12,000 employees on the journey, the leadership team and an annual IT budget of c$200m.

Since 2016, Tom has focussed his career on taking interim CIO/CTO to support leadership teams that need to transform. These have included the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, universities (UNSW, UTS) and financial services organisations (StatePlus/Aware Super, People’s Choice Credit Union).
