An experienced CFO and qualified Company Director, Andrew specialises in helping SME businesses to grow sustainably through having access to the necessary leading information, with systems and governance appropriate to their scale and aspirations.
In addition to traditional financial reporting, showing the business performance, Andrew works with leaders to identify, record, report and act on information that indicates future performance or “where the business is headed and is that where you want it to be heading”.
As an interim CFO, Andrew believes that a critical part of the role is to recruit and train a permanent candidate to grow with the business as quickly as possible, utilising reliable, repeatable recording and reporting systems.
Career History
Andrew trained as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte, moving into commercial finance and general management roles (managing IT, HR and Business Development) in Australia and the United Kingdom. His experience has centred on large private businesses, in industries as diverse as global retail, manufacturing, financial software development, and national legal and architecture practices, while also covering management roles in larger, listed organisations.
Andrew also holds long term Board Member positions (Treasurer) with significant NFP arts organisations, which have broadened his governance experience but more importantly his mind!
Leadership Highlights
Supported the CEO and CFO of a vendor organisation through a successful sale process, managing financial and governance documentation to the Deal Room and potential purchasers.
Identified a significant fraud, then worked with owners and the bank to refinance and restructure the business allowing the business to successfully trade out of potential financial difficulty.
After identifying an unsustainable cashflow position, worked with the owners, bank and external advisors to keep the business running in order to keep it as a going concern and ultimately complete a successful sale of the business to a competitor, allowing all outstanding debts to be repaid and the owners to retain key property assets.
