Career History

Richard has more than 30 years’ experience in the agricultural, industrial, mining and technology sectors at both senior executive and Board level.  He brings a unique perspective built on his broad career in executive P&L and business management positions across Australia and Asia, customer and commercial global leadership roles and a range of international Board chair and directorship responsibilities. 

By combining objective analytical capabilities from his scientific background with his executive leadership and business management competencies, Richard’s achievements include successfully growing a number of small underperforming businesses across Asia into a focused and highly profitable Regional Business Unit.

As Richard's career developed, he joined Incitec and most recently spent 14 years with Orica. He's led the development of strong strategic partnerships with global customers at executive and Board level, stabilised and turned around a major regional business through a period of significant structural market change and delivered significant global commercial growth through the commercialisation of new technologies and the development and disciplined application of commercial policies and systems. 

Leadership Highlights

  • Led the 2,200 people of a major regional business through a period of significant market share and EBIT growth. Through clarity of business vision, objectives and strategy, the alignment of structure with strategy, extensive government and external stakeholder engagement and developing an engaged and high performing leadership team, the business delivered 3.5% market share growth and $AUD 225 M EBIT growth over four years.
  • Developed and led the implementation of the Regional Business Strategy that delivered $AUD100 M of EBIT growth in Year 5 of the Plan,  transforming the business from a collection of marginal sub-regional entities into a fully structured Regional Business.
  • Developed enduring business alliances and partnership relationships with critical global customers at senior executive, CEO and Board level, leading to enhanced commercial contracts, technology partnership agreements and long-term strategic growth plans.
  • Led the development, deployment and commercialisation of innovative industry leading technologies that generated 17% of total business revenue (NT5) and underpinning $AUD750M in performance-based contracts.
  • Developed and implemented a three year plan for a new business that grew from a zero base to $75 M in revenue and 45% market share in target markets, by introducing innovative new technologies, market disrupting new commercial models and well-developed customer and commercial partnerships.
